Welcome to the official website for KCTCS State Fire Rescue Training- Area 9. We hope you enjoy your visit with us. It is our goal to make your experience as helpful and informative as possible.

Area 9 is one of 14 regional offices of State Fire Rescue Training (SFRT) that serves the firefighters and rescue personnel of Kentucky with training and support. SFRT is a Division of the Kentucky Fire Commission within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (
KCTCS). SFRT is headed by Division Director J. Marcus Rudder, whose office is located in the offices of the Kentucky Fire Commission, 118 James Court, Lexington, KY.

SFRT Area 9 serves the Licking River Valley of Eastern Kentucky, midway between Lexington and Ashland, stretching from the Ohio River south to the Mountain Parkway. We serve 48 fire departments in the 11 counties of Bracken, Robertson, Mason, Lewis, Fleming, Bath, Montgomery, Menifee, Elliott, Morgan and Rowan.

Area 9 carries out its duties with a part-time faculty of 25 field instructors, 5 part-time maintenance staff, a full-time field office coordinator, and a full-time area coordinator. The area 9 office is located  within the MMRC Regional Business Park at 99 Lake Park Drive off Ky Hwy 801 North
in Morehead. There are over 400 years of combined firefighting experience within our instructor staff. Our program delivers approximately 500 classes per year with an average annual enrollment of over 7500 student contacts. Classes vary from 1 hour to 170 hours in length.

In addition to training, the Area 9 office is home to Kentucky's
IFSAC Accredited Firefighter Certification program. All testing, data and administration of the program is handled within our office.

Again, we hope your visit with us is both informative and interesting. If you need further assistance or just can't find what you may be looking for, give us a call at 888-301-2946. You can reach me directly on my cell phone at 606-922-7671.
